Your visit

Checking-in

Our checking-in process has changed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. On arrival to the hospital, please show your appointment letter to our security team located at the main entrance of the hospital. They will then direct you to the main reception, who will tell you where you need to go.

Our outpatient clinics run from:

08:00 - 18:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
08:00 - 20:00 on Wednesday

What to expect

View a virtual journey of an outpatient appointment before you visit Royal Papworth Hospital so you know what to expect when you arrive:

Being called for your appointment

When in the waiting area, you will be called for your appointment via a call screen. These are located throughout the outpatient waiting area, and your name will appear on screen with the location you need to go to. If you do not wish to have your name appear on the screen, please talk to a member of reception staff when you check in and they can make alternative arrangements.

Additional tests

If you require any additional tests, such as blood tests, you will also be called to the correct location for these via the calling screens in the main outpatients waiting area.

Parking and travel

Parking is available at Park & Ride sites around Cambridge. The closest Park & Ride sites to our hospital are Trumpington and Babraham Road - these have direct bus services to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Parking is available in Car Park 2, which is located next to the new hospital. There are a few spaces outside the hospital to allow for patients being dropped-off or collected (maximum 10-minute stay). We also have six Blue Badge spaces outside of the hospital, and there are additional disabled spaces on levels 1-4 of Car Park 2.

Patients will be entitled to discounted parking (£4.80 per day) but they will need to show their appointment letter or card at the customer service desk within the car park for the discount to be applied. Other rates apply for visitors.

Please see 'travelling to the hospital by car' for more information, or visit the Car Park 2 website

Infection prevention and control

Coronavirus (COVID-19): Please see our latest coronavirus advice for outpatients.

The prevention of infection is extremely important within the hospital. Some infections that are not a concern in the wider community can be hazardous for other patients and visitors, and this is why it is so important for even fit and healthy visitors to take precautions. Alcohol hand gel is provided at points around the hospital and we encourage all patients and visitors to use it.

Please do not visit our hospital if you have been sick or had diarrhoea within the last 48 hours or are suffering from flu-like symptoms.

In some situations, when attending your outpatient appointment, you may be directed straight into a clinic room to await your consultation due to infection prevention and control. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to the clinic co-ordinators when you check in for your appointment.
