The government would like to see a rise and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in both initiating clinical trials and delivering research. The aim is both to increase the number of patients taking part in research and to enhance the nation's attractiveness as a host for research.

To help measure our performance, Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust submits quarterly returns for initiating and delivering research to the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

We also submit quarterly performance returns to the NIHR on two key areas:

  • Performance of initiating: recruitment of the first patient onto a study and valid submission of study-related-documents to the Joint Research Development Office.
  • Performance in delivery: recruitment of target number of patients to studies within the agreed time limit set out with the sponsor.

Details about the submission requirements are available here.
