Dr Densem qualified with honours from Liverpool Medical School having also acquired a first class degree in Anatomy and Human Biology. His Cardiology training took place in the North West of England, principally at the Wythenshawe Cardiothoracic Centre in Manchester. During this tenure he conducted research on the development of coronary artery disease within cardiac transplant recipients. Specialisation within interventional cardiology, principally balloon angioplasty and stent implantation, led him to complete his training in Vancouver, British Columbia between 2004 and 2006. This allowed exposure to truly state of the art minimal access techniques, for example, percutaneous aortic valve replacement.
Dr Densem was appointed to Royal Papworth Hospital in 2006. He has since been integral in setting up a number of clinical services including primary angioplasty for the treatment of heart attacks, TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, a new heart valve implanted via the leg arteries), as well as leading dedicated teams for the treatment of aortic valve disease and some forms of cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease).
