Video tour - outpatient appointments

View a virtual journey of an outpatient appointment before you visit Royal Papworth Hospital so you know what to expect when you arrive:

Your visit

Our checking-in process has changed owing to the coronavirus outbreak. Please show your appointment letter to security who are located at our two main entrances. They will then send you to the outpatients reception.

In Touch Totem1.pngChecking-in
On arrival to the hospital, you will be able to check in for your appointment using interactive self-service kiosks. You can check in using any self-service kiosk in the main atrium or outpatient reception area. This is extremely important as it tells us you have arrived for your appointment.

Simply select your language preference and follow the on-screen prompts. You will have the opportunity to scan the barcode on top of your appointment letter or enter your personal details as prompted to check in. The kiosk will then signpost you to the appropriate waiting area for you to wait in. It may also prompt you to speak to a member of the reception team.

Our outpatient clinics run from:

08:00 - 18:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
08:00 - 20:00 on Wednesday

If you are unable to use the kiosk or are prompted to speak to a member of reception staff, do not worry - our reception team will be able to check you in for your appointment. You can also change your personal details, such as address and telephone number, with the reception team. It is important that we have your up-to-date contact details so we can get in touch with you as needed.

Being called for your appointment
When in the waiting area, you will be called for your appointment via a call screen. These are located throughout the outpatient waiting area, and your name will appear on screen with the location you need to go to. If you do not wish to have your name appear on the screen, please talk to a member of reception staff when you check in and they can make alternative arrangements.

Additional tests
If you require any additional tests, such as blood tests, you will also be called to the correct location for these via a calling screen.

Future appointments
Please use the kiosks to check in each time you visit the hospital for an outpatient appointment. We need to know each time you visit for an appointment and clinic locations may change from time to time.

Parking and travel

Parking is available in Car Park 2, which is located next to the new hospital. There are a few spaces outside the hospital to allow for patients being dropped off or collected, but these will have a maximum 10-minute stay. We also have six Blue Badge spaces outside of the hospital, and there are additional disabled spaces on levels 1-4 of Car Park 2.

Patients will be entitled to discounted parking (£4.00 per day) but they will need to show their appointment letter or card at the customer service desk within the car park for the discount to be applied. Other rates apply for visitors.

Please see 'travelling to the hospital by car' for more information, or visit the Car Park 2 website

Parking will also be available at Park & Ride sites around Cambridge. The closest Park & Ride sites to the hospital are Trumpington and Babraham Road - these have direct bus services to the Campus. For more information about travel options to Royal Papworth Hospital, click here.

Infection prevention and control

Coronavirus (COVID-19): You must wear a face covering when coming to the hospital. Please regularly use the hand santiser/ alcohol gel dispensers which are located on walls throughout the hospital. Please do not come to the hospital if you have COVID-19 symptoms. You must attend your appointment alone.

More coronavirus advice for patients.

The prevention of infection is extremely important within the hospital. Some infections that are not a concern in the wider community can be hazardous for other patients and visitors, and this is why it is so important for even fit and healthy visitors to take precautions. Alcohol hand gel is provided at points around the hospital and we encourage all patients and visitors to use it.

Please do not visit our hospital if you have been sick or had diarrhoea within the last 48 hours or are suffering from flu like symptoms.

In some situations, when attending your outpatient appointment, you may be directed straight into a clinic room to await your consultation due to infection prevention and control. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to the clinic co-ordinators when you check in for your appointment.
