The Research & Development (R&D) team, under the auspices of the Clinical R&D Director, comprises; a Senior R&D Manager, Contracts and Finance Manager, Clinical Research Project Managers, Statisticians, Health Economist, Data Management team and experienced Research Nurses and Research Coordinators.
We conduct approximately 220 research studies at any one time of various types. For example;

- Anaesthesia
- Interventional cardiology
- Cardiac surgery
- Lung infection and inflammation (includes cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis), interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, sleep disorders
- Lung cancer thoracic oncology, mesothelioma
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Transplantation (heart and lung)
We provide a comprehensive advice and support service encompassing all aspects of research project management:
- Initial idea formation
- Applying for funding
- Costing and contracts
- Risk assessment
- Regulatory approvals
- Trust approval
- Data management
- Dissemination of results
Project financial and contract administration
R&D takes responsibility for the administration of internally and externally funded projects. This service includes:
- Income collection (invoicing and grant claims)
- Administration of accounts
- Provision of budgetary statements (in conjunction with finance)
- Contractual and administrative problem solving
- Approval of and appointment of research staff
- Research costs, NHS support costs and treatment costs
