How long have you worked at Royal Papworth Hospital?

I have been at Royal Papworth for three and a half years.

Why did you choose a career in HR?

I was first inspired to work in HR when I did work experience at the age of 16 in a human resources team. This motivated me to take up further education and training, to gain my CIPD qualification in Human Resource Management and successfully obtain a professional role in HR.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really appreciate the culture here and the opportunities I have been given here. I enjoy the fact that my role is fundamentally about people, helping them develop themselves and their teams. One of the core responsibilities of my role is to help managers find the best people with the right skills and the right time. Most of all, I like being part of a small, busy HR team and being able to take advice from senior colleagues and learn from their experience.

What’s the biggest challenge in your role?

At the moment my biggest challenge is supporting the managers here through all the change associated with the move to the new hospital in Spring 2019.  I also have a key role to help reduce staff turnover by ensuring that people are managed well by supportive managers.
