22 December 2022

A lung cancer nurse with decades of NHS service, a cardiology doctor described as an ‘inspiration’ to students and a team which set up a new ward in 24 hours on New Year’s Eve were among the winners at Royal Papworth Hospital’s Staff Awards 2022 this week (Monday 19 December).

The ceremony at Homerton College in Cambridge was hosted by former BBC Look East presenter Stewart White and generously sponsored by Philips UK and Ireland and Fysicon.

Attended by staff, partners and the hospital’s leadership team, the awards recognised the outstanding levels of achievement from teams and individuals across the Trust, which is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital.

The Team of the Year Award went to the hospital’s 3 North ward team, for setting up a new respiratory unit to care for acute COVID-19 patients who were taken to Royal Papworth from other hospitals across the East of England region. They did this in 24 hours over New Year’s Eve in 2020.
