Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s strategic partnership with CMR Surgical, which saw the installation of the cutting-edge surgical robot Versius into our thoracic operating theatres, has resulted in both being shortlisted in the HSJ Partnership Awards 2024.
Our collaboration with Cambridge-based CMR has seen us named as finalists in the 'Best acute sector partnership with the NHS' category. The awards recognise an outstanding dedication to improving healthcare and effective collaboration with the NHS.
Back in April 2023 we became the first UK hospital to use this new type of cutting-edge surgical robot for thoracic surgery.
This latest technology allows the surgical team at Royal Papworth to perform even more minimally invasive surgery, improving outcomes and recovery times for patients across the East of England and reducing their length of stay in hospital.
In a hattrick of Cambridge connections, Serena, who lives in the city, became the first patient to benefit from this robotic surgery when she had the middle lobe of her right lung removed due to a benign tumour.
