Congratulations to Georgia Moule who has become a world champion clay pigeon shooter.
Georgia, who works in the tissue bank at Royal Papworth, recently won the ICTSF (International Clay Target Shooting Federation) World English Sporting Championships in both the ladies individual and team events.
“I was completely unaware where my score was sitting in the individual ladies category as I never look”, Georgia revealed.
“After all the rotations my teammate Emma ran over to tell me I was Ladies World Champion!” I took a second and said “what, we are Ladies Team World Champions?” and she replied “yes, but you have also won the Individual Ladies’ title.” “I was completely gobsmacked.”
The two-day championships took place in the Irish town of Clane, 20 miles west of Dublin, and included shooters from across the world.
There were two different courses to shoot – the gold course on the Friday and the green on the Saturday.
After scores of 89/100 and 85/100, Georgia finished with an overall combined score of 174/200, which was enough to land the Individual Ladies’ title as well as helping her teammates to secure the team victory.
For Georgia, it’s the latest success in a sport that she started 10 years ago at the age of 12.
“My family and I were at a friend’s farm and they got out an old fashioned manual trap and started to shoot a few clays. My dad persuaded me to have a go with a 20-bore semi-auto and I have been hooked ever since!”
“I have always enjoyed sport, from football to netball, and now clay pigeon shooting. I am very lucky to do a sport that I love to a high level and that has allowed me to travel to many different countries and meet many amazing people along the way.”
