Nnamdi Obike joined Royal Papworth Hospital as a healthcare support worker in March 2019, having moved to the United Kingdom from Nigeria.
For 12 months he was based in our outpatients department, but with the majority of appointments having been postponed or changed to virtual clinics owing to the coronavirus outbreak, he was redeployed to our critical care unit.
Speaking about his experience, Nnamdi said: "It has been a privilege and an honour to have been with my colleagues in critical care. I am pleased to have helped them and our patients."
Now, following several weeks helping to look after the East of England's most critically ill COVID-19 patients, Nnamdi has returned to our outpatients team as we look to cautiously and safely return some normal services to the hospital.
