Peter Kisgeretz from Ellington in North Cambridgeshire has been in and out of Royal Papworth Hospital since March. He initially underwent surgery to remove a tumour in his chest and has since had three further procedures in the hospital.
He is using his experience to urge others not to delay seeking urgent medical treatment for non COVID-19 health issues during the current coronavirus pandemic.
“I can’t describe the kindness that people have shown me," he said. "Everyone here is cheerful and has a spring in their step, from the nurses and doctors to the cleaners and catering staff. What I like here is that it feels like a family. We all have a laugh and a joke with each other and that gets you through.
“I know a lot of people are worried about coming into the hospital at the moment but I’ve never had to worry about coronavirus (COVID-19). Everyone here goes out of their way to make sure you get the treatment you need and that you’re kept safe. I’d strongly advise people not to put off any treatment, seek medical advice and get the treatment they need.”
